7 DIY Projects for the Backyard

If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for a good DIY project. There’s a reason I am constantly on the lookout for pallets, deals on power tools, and all kinds of crafting supplies.

One of my areas of focus this summer has been my backyard. I have been removing large shrubs, cleaning up areas, letting other areas get overgrown and built a beautiful garden of raised beds.

Some (ok, a LOT) of my evening hours lately have been spent scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram to see what other projects I can get done before the summer is up. I’ve collected quite a list, so I’m sharing my seven favorites here with you. If you do one, post a pic on IG and tag me so I can enjoy the finished product!

Mosaic Flower Pots

After reading this tutorial, I now want to go to my local thrift shop (fortunately, there is not one but TWO close to my house in North Ridgeville) and buy some dishes that I can sacrifice to make these. You can find the whole tutorial on The Vintage Butterfly.

Outdoor Movie Set Up

I am obsessed with this. This is something so simple, but I know the kids will be talking about this for years to come! You can find the whole tutorial at Not Just a Housewife.

Build Your Own Pergola

Ok, this one has me a little intimidated, but I’m sure I can find some people to help me both build it and enjoy it. I have a patio right out of my backdoor and I know this will entice me to use it more. Plus… those lights… need I say more? You can find the whole tutorial at The Created Home.

Vertical Garden Planter

If you couldn’t tell by the fact that I went from 2 4x4 raised garden beds to 3 4x8 beds this year, I’m embracing my green thumb that I didn’t know existed. Now, I’m looking for all kinds of ways to add color and whimsy to my backyard with projects like this vertical planter. Simple, brilliant, and delightful. Ana White has the whole tutorial.

Creative Backyard Storage Shed

I need backyard storage like a fish needs water. But I’m not in love with the typical industrial looking set ups that are so common today. I want my backyard to be magical and full of surprises. I think this would do the trick nicely. Check out the full tutorial at A Cultivated Nest.

Build a Greenhouse Out of Old Windows

I have been waiting to do this for a LONG time. I have a couple of old windows that I scored for free on OfferUp and, of course, pallet wood. What do you think? Should I do it now? More info can be found at The White Cottage Farm.

String Lights Around Your Backyard

This is a MUST for me. And this particular example combined the lights with planters! Simple but brilliant idea! You can find all the instructions at Jenna Sue Design.
