History of the North Ridgeville Corn Festival

Originally, the festival was started to help celebrate the upcoming US bicentennial in 1976. The first festival was in 1975 and lasted six hours. It originally was just 13 vendor booths around the middle school track, but the proceeds were donated to help the North Ridgeville library.

In 1976, the festival shifted a bit and honored a man named Harold Sweet. Harold was a sweet corn grower and was very active in the community. He was on the city council and did a great deal of work to contribute positively to the youth and citizens of North Ridgeville. The committee that planned the festival officially changed their name to the North Ridgeville Corn Festival Committee in 1977.

The Corn Festival became an official member of the Ohio Festival and Events Association and is a member today.
